The global renewables giant is evaluating the metal-hydrogen batteries at its U.S. testing facility in Wisconsin

FREMONT, Calif. – Dec. 3, 2024 – EnerVenue, a company pioneering the commercial deployment of high-efficiency metal-hydrogen batteries capable of more than 30,000 cycles, today announced that RWE, a leading global energy company, has purchased EnerVenue Energy Storage Vessels (ESVs) for performance testing in a renewable energy pilot project.

RWE is conducting the pilot project at its Milwaukee-area U.S. testing facility, where the company is now cycling EnerVenue’s ESVs to examine the batteries’ performance characteristics. The goals of this pilot project include validating ESV cycling flexibility, charge/discharge characteristics, duration, temperature performance, and efficiency validation. RWE will use the data collected to align EnerVenue’s technology for potential future RWE applications.

ESVs offer the prospect of ultra-long lifespans and efficient, flexible deployments via their highly configurable and scalable product architecture. The batteries are designed to exceed a 30,000-cycle life and cycle up to three times per day without rest. They offer improved safety without the thermal runaway or propagation risk exhibited by incumbent lithium-ion technologies—eliminating the need for expensive, auxiliary fire suppression solutions. ESVs are also more readily recyclable than lithium-ion, making the batteries especially sustainable and environmentally responsible.

Brazil-headquartered VedantaESS will procure EnerVenue’s Energy Storage Vessels™ for use across utility, distributed generation, and isolated microgrid applications

Fremont, Calif. and São Paulo, Brazil – MONTH XX, 2023 – EnerVenue, the first company to bring metal-hydrogen batteries capable of 30,000 cycles to the clean energy revolution, today announced a Master Supply Agreement with VedantaESS. Per the terms of the deal, VedantaESS will procure and deploy 525 MWh of EnerVenue’s Energy Storage Vessels (ESVs) over the next three years.

The partnership with VedantaESS is EnerVenue’s first deal in South America. The company continues to execute an accelerated global sales strategy that has delivered EnerVenue’s energy storage solutions into applications across the world

The Master Supply Agreement with VedantaESS will increase EnerVenue’s supplied energy storage annually, with 75 MWh in 2024, 150 MWh in 2025, and 300 MWh in 2026. VedantaESS will utilize EnerVenue’s ESVs to service Brazil’s growing demand for clean energy, including via distributed generation, isolated microgrids, and commercial, industrial, and utility applications. São Paulo-based VedantaESS provides customers with energy storage project design and management, including energy storage management software, assembly of the battery solution, installation services, technical support, and other products and services that meet the diverse and evolving requirements of the Brazilian energy market. Delivery on the ESV order will be fulfilled by Q4 2024 and will support a large project providing energy storage for residents in Florida.

In this use case, High Caliber Energy has assisted one of its large U.S. energy clients in evaluating solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) technologies with a focus on safety, value, support, and battery lifespan. That vetting process led the client to select EnerVenue ESVs as an ideal fit for its Florida energy storage project and its expanding solar plus storage integrations. The ESVs will primarily be used to provide needed load-leveling and frequency regulation.

Gupta adds significant energy industry experience to EnerVenue. He will lead all facets of the company’s supply chain management, including materials procurement and logistics.

Gupta joins EnerVenue from Bloom Energy, a leading worldwide manufacturer of solid-oxide fuel cells for the distributed generation of electricity and hydrogen. For the past 11 years, he served as Vice President of Strategic Sourcing for the San Jose-headquartered firm. Gupta was instrumental in developing and expanding Bloom Energy’s global supply base, leading a team that transformed the company away from being supply-constrained. During his tenure, he also reduced material costs for Bloom’s fuel cell system by more than 50% and worked with a worldwide network of suppliers enabling $100M+ investments to feed Bloom’s supply requirements.

Prior to Bloom, Gupta spent two decades at Intel, where he managed a critical supply line for the company’s manufacturing sites. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Stanford University and an MBA from Santa Clara University.

EnerVenue ESVs continue to expand the company’s pioneering use of metal-hydrogen energy storage technology as an advantageous solution compared to lithium-ion and other alternatives. Based on decades of use with NASA and other aerospace applications, EnerVenue has significantly cost-reduced materials to bring—for the first time—unique battery durability, safety, and flexibility benefits to grid-scale, commercial and industrial deployments. The new ESV solution delivers unprecedented flexibility in how customers can stack and install the vessels to build and scale their energy storage capacity.

The ultra-long-life EnerVenue ESVs enable unique applications and business models for developers, integrators, and owners. Customers can cycle ESVs up to three times per day without rest, and the batteries have an expected lifetime of 30 years / 30,000 cycles. ESVs continue to deliver 86% capacity beyond 30,000 cycles, providing a second asset life that lithium-ion batteries cannot match. The solution’s metal-hydrogen technology further differentiates from li-ion by offering improved fire safety.  ESVs have been tested and demonstrate no thermal runaway or propagation risk, and there is no need for costly, preventative fire suppression systems. EnerVenue ESVs also significantly reduce OPEX and CAPEX costs compared to li-ion, delivering on expected ROI by eliminating any need for expensive augmentations, excessive oversizing, or extensive maintenance during a project’s lifetime. With recyclable components, ESVs are also more sustainable and environmentally responsible than li-ion.

The two partnerships secure EnerVenue’s plating equipment and materials supply, dramatically accelerating the company’s high-scale battery production to meet exceptional customer demand

FREMONT, Calif. – June 29, 2022 – EnerVenue, the first company to bring metal-hydrogen batteries capable of 30,000 cycles to the clean energy revolution, today announced it has completed agreements with Precision Process and Precious Plate. The deals with the companies, both of whom are owned by the same governance entity, enable EnerVenue to secure its plating equipment and materials supply requirements and to achieve an accelerated pathway to high-scale battery production.

Under the first agreement, Precision Process will serve as EnerVenue’s exclusive supplier of plating manufacturing equipment. Precision Process will build all plating lines to be installed at EnerVenue’s current and future manufacturing sites, per the terms of this five-year deal.

Under the second five-year agreement, Precious Plate will exclusively supply EnerVenue with plated anode materials – essential to the manufacturing of EnerVenue’s battery vessels.

With these agreements in place, EnerVenue has established a secure supply of plating equipment and materials, as well as price certainty, as the cleantech company rapidly outgrows its startup stage and shifts into high-volume production.

EnerVenue is able to tap into its partners’ wealth of experience as commercial plating material and equipment providers. Precious Plate has established a dedicated manufacturing location in Niagara Falls, NY to ensure the protection of EnerVenue’s intellectual property, and provide an exclusive operational commitment. The facility will expand EnerVenue’s anode production capacity to five gigawatt hours (GWh) annually by 2026. Additional land has also been secured to support in excess of 10 GWh annually as EnerVenue grows. Precious Plate is currently hiring to fill a variety of high-quality roles at the facility.

FREMONT, Calif. and BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico – June 2, 2022 – EnerVenue, the first company to bring metal-hydrogen batteries to the clean energy revolution, today announced an MOU agreement with Sonnell Power Solutions, a division of Grupo Sonnell. Under the terms of the deal, Sonnell Power Solutions will procure and deploy 40 MWh of EnerVenue’s EnerStation battery systems in 2023, with volume increasing to 420 MWh in 2024 and 2025.

Puerto Rico-based Grupo Sonnell, the leader in transportation  and logistics services in Puerto Rico , is aggressively expanding into the energy sector through its new subsidiary Sonnell Power Solutions. Puerto Rico faces rising demand for alternative energy and grid-resilient solutions, particularly following the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the continuing power grid deficiencies left in the storm’s aftermath. Puerto Rico’s industrial sector has remained particularly ready for widespread energy transformation, with businesses actively seeking transitions into renewable energy solutions.
